We’ve been using them for about 2,000 years.

Most of that time the need was simple: Give us light.

Now we use them differently. For atmosphere. For fragrance. For the way they make a room feel.

But somewhere along the way, we accepted that when the wax runs out, we replace the whole thing.

Which is quite odd (when you think about it). 

Because the whole thing isn’t compostable or anything. 

Like a tissue box or a bag for crisps.

Refillable candles solve this by making the vessel permanent.

So that's good.

But it creates another problem.

You have to want to keep the vessel.

Not just through one fragrance, but as rooms change, homes change and tastes change.

What we’ve noticed is: objects which tend to survive all of that don’t depend on decoration or trendy colours.

We wanted something quieter: matte stoneware, a restrained palette and a shape interesting enough to stand on its own without decoration.

The staying power would come from material, form and proportion.

So that became our starting point.
